OpenAI introduced its newest AI model, called GPT-5.2, on Thursday. The AI start-up said it is the “most capable” model yet for professional work.

“We designed GPT‑5.2 to unlock even more economic value for people; it’s better at creating spreadsheets, building presentations, writing code, perceiving images, understanding long contexts, using tools, and handling complex, multistep projects,” OpenAI said in a blog post Thursday.

OpenAI cited how GPT-5.2 set a record for certain benchmarks, including one for knowledge work tasks called GDPval.

The new model will roll out on Thursday starting with paid plans and for developers.

“Overall, GPT‑5.2 brings significant improvements in general intelligence, long-context understanding, agentic tool-calling, and vision—making it better at executing complex, real-world tasks end-to-end than any previous model,” OpenAI added.

On Monday, OpenAI noted the progress the company has made with enterprise customers. It said OpenAI has more than one million businesses that use its AI tools and that it now serves more than seven million ChatGPT workplace accounts. According to an OpenAI survey of 9,000 employees, AI users are saving an average of 40 to 60 minutes a day, the company said.

Some experts have said OpenAI models’ capabilities have fallen behind the latest series of models from Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude.

GPT-5.2 is a step in the right direction.
