President Donald Trump took a swipe at telecommunications giant AT&T on Monday, complaining on social media about technical issues during a conference call being handled by the carrier.
Trump called on AT&T’s boss, “whoever that may be,” to get involved.
AT&T stock was up more than 3%, marking its highest close since March 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
“I’m doing a major Conference Call with Faith Leaders from all over the Country, and AT&T is totally unable to make their equipment work properly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account shortly after 2 p.m. Eastern time. “This is the second time it’s happened.”
Barron’s reached out to AT&T for comment. The company posted a response to the White House press secretary on its own social media account, saying it was “working to quickly understand and assess the situation.”
Trump didn’t let it go, posting for a second time just minutes after his first post that “AT&T ought to get its act together.”
“We may have to reschedule the call, but we’ll use another carrier the next time,” the president said. “AT&T obviously doesn’t know what they’re doing!”
AT&T later Monday followed up on its earlier post, saying that its initial analysis indicates that “the disruption was caused by an issue with the conference call platform, not our network. Unfortunately, this caused the delay, and we are working diligently to better understand the issue so we can prevent disruptions in the future.”
AT&T shares are up 27% so far this year, while the S&P 500 is up 5.5%.
